Hi, everybody! Just a quick update: We will continue our travels end of March, going Ft. Lauderdale FL to Victoria BC via California. We assume it’ll take about a month. We’re ready to get home, so we won’t dawdle :-), but there’s a few things we want to do along the way. We’re not planning any events, though. We had intended those for Canada only.

Also, Rolf has started to work on the remaining videos again. I’ll be sharing them in this blog ASAP.

There is Kent Rathwell who we met in Saskatchewan, the founder of Sun Country Highway, the electric car charging network that lets you drive, fully electric, from Victoria BC to St. John’s NL. He did this, and much more, to ensure transportation becomes sustainable.

There is Sylvain Juteau who we met in Quebec, the founder of Roulez Electrique, an EV Charging Station concept, that not only lets you charge any electric car even in the luxury of a heated indoor garage, but also offers advice, information, coffee, a place to have your own lunch, do business, have an afternoon snooze, rent electric bikes and even try out electric cars. He did that to ensure his three kids will have a healthy world to live in.

There is Joshua Green, a young guy we met in Newfoundland, who took it upon himself to organize the means and the location for a much-needed electric car charger in the middle of the island. He did this because nobody else did.

And there were so many more, Onanole Campground that gets its power from solar, Ian who is raising money for electric car associations by selling T-shirts online, Peavey Mart that is proud to be powered by renewables and offers electric car charging at most of their stores.   …”

Join us for our Meet-up in Montreal organized by the Club Tesla Québec on the premises of Adonis Supermarket. Meet Ian, the ‘Mad Hungarian’ and find out about his EVOLVEwear T-Shirt fundraiser. The Meet-up is followed by a Tesla convoy through Montreal and around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. After charging at the CHAdeMO charger at Roulez Electrique in Trois-Rivieres we continue on to our campground near Quebec City.

‘Before the Flood’ movie: “Follow Leonardo DiCaprio as he travels around the globe to witness first hand the devastating effects of climate change and what can be done to solve the climate crisis.”

I watched ‘Before the Flood‘ yesterday, the first day of its screening. Together with about 88,000 people on YouTube alone. When I was done, the movie had 150,000 views. This morning, it had over 1,5 mio views! And that’s just on YouTube and it’s just the beginning.

I’m so, so glad that people are paying attention. Kudos and a big ‘Thank-you’ to the makers of ‘Before the Flood’. And a special ‘Thank-you!’ for making it available to the world for free. I would have gladly paid my movie ticket to watch it, but to reach the masses, providing it for free was the way to go. Well done!

A lot of things went through my head last night, and I’m sure I wasn’t alone. I’m taking four main things with me:

• It is important to ACT FAST. Climate change is not new, it’s been known to be happening for decades. But now we’re running out of time, we only have a small window of opportunity left to transition back to a safe world.
• It is important to ACT GLOBALLY. The documentary was translated into 47 languages, now it’s up to us all to share it as much as possible with the rest of the world and to join ranks and start acting to facilitate change.
• It is important to STOP MAKING EXCUSES. No more ‘expecting others to do something first or do things better’. No more denial, blaming, finger-pointing, delaying. The buck stops right here, with each and every one of us. Now.
• We as INDIVIDUALS are MORE POWERFUL than we think:
  • We have the BUYING POWER – If we stop buying the products that are destroying the planet, stop buying from the companies that are destroying the planet, the companies will have to change their ways or they will go bust. We can direct our money towards the companies and the products that take good care of this world.
  • Our VOICE has POWER, especially in the era of Social Media. It is so much easier now than ever before to let the politicians know what we expect them to do. It is up to us to demand faster and more powerful actions, not just every few years with our vote, but in a much more timely manner. And much more often.

I won’t go into the details of what the documentary shows, you NEED TO watch it for yourself. The video footage will make you understand more than any words ever could how bad the situation is. On the documentary’s web site, you will find suggestions to help you figure out what you can do to counteract climate change. Whatever works for you, every little action counts.

Please join us in sharing this documentary with the world and in changing our ways so that this planet will remain livable for future generations. Join FIGHT THE FLOOD.

Let’s not go down in history as the last generation that could have made a change and didn’t.

Hello from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, we have arrived. 🙂 We will soon store our car and trailer for the winter season until next spring, when we will return home to Victoria BC via California! We have now done 24,000km/15,000mi in our electric car pulling a camping trailer, promoting sustainable energy and transportation along the way, and will take a little winter break.

Before that, I’d like to share some important information with you:

On October 30, the National Geographic Documentary “Before the Flood” will air on the National Geographic Channel worldwide, in 171 countries and 45 languages. It will also be available for viewing free of charge on many online platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more .

We, Rolf and I, believe it is important for EVERYBODY on this planet to watch this documentary, because ALL OF US are needed to ensure that this planet remains livable for future generations.

In this regard, I hope that especially parents and grandparents will take the time to watch it, since it’s about their children’s and grandchildren’s future. 

“We need everyone to demand bold action from their political leaders and to elect representatives who have their best interests at heart, not the interests of corporations to perpetuate a cycle of greed and destruction,” says DiCaprio. “This documentary shows how interconnected the fate of all humanity is — but also the power we all possess as individuals to build a better future for our planet.”

Okay, I took a little ‘Blogging break’ after our cross Canada trip, hanging out around Nova Scotia and enjoying a beautiful Indian Summer in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont – even visiting as far South as Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. The Indian Summer had been on our bucket list, just like the cross Canada trip. Just like that cross-country trip, we never thought we’d do it in a 100% electric car with camping trailer. 😉
