Cross Canada Presentation

Hi, everybody, long time no read. 😉 Remember us? The crazy couple (and sane dog) that started on a cross Canada trip in June 2016 with a Tesla Model X pulling a Safari Condo Camping Trailer?! And after having arrived in St. John’s NL continued on to Florida and California before returning to Victoria BC for a total of 33,000 fully electric kilometres?! Yep, that’s us!

I have to admit, once we got home in April 2017 and participated in the Victoria BC Earth Day Event, we were exhausted. Hence, not much happened on this blog. Also, in June, we started a new project, but more about that at a later date.

At this point, I’d like to share something that is long overdue: Our 2017 Earth Day Presentation about our Cross Canada Trip. I hope you enjoy it.

Many Thanks to Creatively United for giving us the opportunity to share our experience and for producing this video!

Earth Day 2017, April 22: Presentation in Victoria BC

Just a quick reminder that we will give a presentation about our cross Canada trip in an electric car with camping trailer during the Sustainability Showcase Event at the Royal BC Museum, Victoria BC, Lecture Room, on April 22, 11am – noon.

Please make sure you order your tickets online or buy them at Lyle’s Place, 770 Yates St., Victoria BC prior to Saturday!

We will also show our car and camping trailer during this event right in front of the Museum’s entrance from 10am – 5pm.

See you there! Rolf & Silke

Honey, I shrunk the Tesla!

If you’ve followed us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you probably already know that this has been an exceptionally good week for us. First, we got the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for our Model X, meaning that it will go into production any day now. Second, we found somebody in Washington State who is going to tow our camping trailer with his Tesla Model X in the upcoming Victoria Day Parade (May 23). Hurrah!!! And third, we hooked up the camping trailer’s solar panels and managed to charge my Model S from the trailer’s batteries at 6km/hr (12Amps) – (more about that coming soon from Rolf)!

Last but not least, we really started enjoying our electric loaner car. Continue reading

This, I call ‘Wild’…

These past few months, which I’d call our ‘Social Media Warm-Up Phase’, we worked hard on getting the word out that hubby Rolf, Golden Lab Kye and I are going to cross Canada in a 100% electric Tesla Model X this summer to promote sustainable energy and zero-emissions transportation. I hope you’ve had fun following us so far! Now it’s time for a surprise:

The one thing we kept from you, the one thing we had planned from the start, but wanted to keep a secret for a little while longer, is…

“Two Tesla Enthusiasts, one wild idea…”

That’s how I started our ‘About us‘ post. Now, if some of you thought that driving from Victoria BC to Ft. Lauderdale FL and back (round trip about 9,000 mi/ 14,000+ km) In.An.Electric.Car! was ‘wild’, or that crossing Canada in a Tesla Model X is ‘wild’ you ain’t seen nothing yet 😉. On May 1, we’ll announce what I would really call a ‘wild idea’!

Stay tuned…

Electric Car Enthusiast’s Heaven

We are in Silicon Valley, CA. What an inspiring place this is. It’s like being in the future, seeing how it will hopefully be like everywhere else soon. There are tons of #ElectricCars driving around, all makes, including buses! There are tons of #ElectricChargers. We saw #SolarPanels used to shade car parking. We even saw a solar panel-powered #EVCharger.

Thinking about our upcoming Trip

Less than 10 days before we leave. After ordering snow chains and charge adapters for the car, I feel I have to start planning our trip in more detail. In winter, the weather is always on the front of your mind. With an electric car, certain weather conditions can have a big effect on your range. However, there can also be weather that makes the trip outright dangerous or impossible. Continue reading
